Disaster: (noun) a calamitous event, especially one occurring suddenly and causing great loss of life, damage or hardship.
Many people remember forever where they are and what they are doing when a significant disaster impacts their lives. The impact on day-to-day life is the most devastating part of a disaster. Whether it is a fire that destroys a single home or an EF-5 tornado that wipes out an entire neighborhood, the life of one or many Greene County residents can be changed forever.
The Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management strongly believes that preparedness is the key to mitigating a disaster's impact. The more we do to prepare ourselves before disaster strikes, the less impact it will have when it does. It is a goal of the OEM to help build a disaster-resistant community where citizens are prepared for any disaster, be it natural or human-caused.
HometownREADY is a disaster preparedness program that focuses on preparing businesses, churches and other community organizations to prepare for, face and overcome disaster. HometownREADY will help you transform disaster preparedness in your organization from a one-time consideration to a daily way of life. We sincerely hope that you find benefit in this program and look forward to fostering a lasting relationship with your organization.
