CERT Training Baseline

CERT provides basic disaster preparedness and response training to the public, free of charge.  A typical CERT class includes 24 hours of training covering

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • The National Incident Management System (NIMS)
  • Basic First-Aid
  • Small-Fire Suppression
  • Light Search & Rescue Techniques
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Terrorism Awareness
  • CERT Organization

The class concludes with a practical exercise in which you'll respond to a simulated disaster to practice skills learned in the classroom.

"My CERT training made a difference in my ability to deal with situations but more importantly, by being able to identify myself as a CERT member, I noticed an immediate change in the tone and attitude of the people I talked with."
